How to interpret and elucidate from a phenomenological perspective the requirement that philosophical theorizing ought to consider the legitimacy or universal validity of ethical principles as well as the diversity of life forms? What could phenomenology say about the distance between the theoretical foundations of ethics and the practical application of its principles? To elucidate these questions, first, we take the characteristics of Habermas’s discourse ethics as reference point to show what Scheler’s material ethics of values consists in and in (...) what sense it rejects both universalism and relativism. Secondly, we present the concepts that articulate the phenomenological foundations of this ethics in order to indicate in what sense “the universal” and “the individual” are taken as complementary. Starting from some questions concerning the problem of the distance between theory and practice raised by this conception, we sketch finally some thematic lines to indicate to what extent it is possible to expect from the material ethics of values to shorten that distance. De modo general, la posición de Husserl respecto de Scheler se puede resumir como el rechazo a una “metafísica ingenua”. Del otro lado, la posición de este respecto del fundador de la fenomenología se puede caracterizar como desaprobación al “giro trascendental” y al privilegio del pensar sobre el sentir y valorar. Pese a estas diferencias irreconciliables, Husserl y Scheler coinciden no solo en la defensa de la objetividad de los valores. En este texto, quisiéramos delinear los trazos generales de lo (...) que sería una disputa fenomenológica entre Husserl y Scheler respecto de la objetividad axiológica con el fin de mostrar cómo sus análisis coinciden y divergen.In general terms, Husserl’s position regarding Scheler can be summarized as the rejection of a “naive metaphysics”. On the other hand, Scheler’s position regarding the father of Phenomenology can be presented as the disapproval of the “transcendental turn” and of the priority of thought over feeling and valuing. In spite of these irreconcilable differences, Husserl and Scheler agree in the defence of the objectivity of values. In this paper, we will try to draw some general guidelines of what a phenomenological dispute between Husserl and Scheler concerning the objectivity of values would be like in order to show how theirs analyses coincide, and disagree. Las reflexiones de Husserl sobre la ética se caracterizan por el intento de hacer de ella una ciencia, pero terminan con la subordinación de los problemas éticos a la metafísica. Tomando como hilo conductor la reflexión husserliana sobre la ética en tanto Kunstlehre, el artículo intenta mostrar cómo el sentido y ámbito de la ética se van ampliando hasta el punto de que su subordinación a la metafísica responde al carácter ético que ha de tener la existencia del mundo y (...) de la humanidad. Con este fin, seguimos el camino que va de la fundación estática de la ética de la primera lección de 1914 a la fundación genética de las lecciones de 1920/24 y terminamos con la consideración de dos textos del inicio de los años treinta en los que Husserl retoma la argumentación de estas últimas lecciones.Husserl’s meditations on ethics are characterized by his attempt to configure it as science, but they end by subordinating ethical problems to metaphysics. Starting by Husserl’s reflection on ethics as Kunstlehre, this paper attempts to show how the sense and scope of ethics expands to the point that its subordination to metaphysics responds to the ethical character that the world and humanity’s existence should both have. With this in view, this paper follows the path that leads from the static foundation of ethics in the first 1914 lessons, to its genetic foundation in the 1920/24 lessons. It concludes considering two texts from the beginning of the 1930’s, whereby Husserl deals again with the arguments of the latter lessons. (shrink)

El valor moral de nuestra vida práctica depende de nuestro conocimiento de valores. Más aún, según Scheler, la intuición adecuada de un valor plenamente dado motiva necesariamente nuestro querer a la realización de ese valor. Pero lo habitual es, más bien, que los valores de diferentes tipos nos sean dados en diferentes grados de inadecuación. Por esa razón, estamos sometidos a posibles engaños valorativos y, por tanto, a la posibilidad de una vida éticamente mala. Este artículo propone abordar los archivos de inteligencia desde una perspectiva archivística incorporándola a modo de sistema de interpretación a partir de utilizar sus principios y algunos de los conceptos y procedimientos que la integran. Para ello, presenta brevemente el lugar que han ocupado las demandas por memoria, verdad y justicia en la identificación y puesta a la consulta de documentación de inteligencia en la Argentina; desarrolla la especificidad del marco conceptual archivístico para pensar la producción, gestión e investigación de (...) este tipo de documentos; realiza un recorrido por los diferentes casos de archivos de inteligencia de los que se tiene conocimiento; analiza las consecuencias que las formas de conceptualizar el Archivo han tenido sobre las tareas de gestión e investigación; y problematiza las posibilidades de indagación sobre los mismos. De esa manera, se busca destacar la importancia de valorar los conceptos referidos a la principal y primera tarea de tratamiento archivístico: la identificación; a los fines de focalizar la mirada en cuestiones vinculadas a las posibilidades de recuperar el contexto de producción de los documentos y, de esa manera, habilitar la lectura de la información literal que portan los registros en diálogo con sus contextos. Entendiendo que es a partir de ello que se abre la posibilidad de que los documentos puedan servir tanto como fuente para la historia, como para la memoria institucional y/o para la garantía en el ejercicio de derechos de todas y todos. The article attempts to verify that inappropriate use of information provided by the media can increase risks for persons who are susceptible to mental illness. The impact of Colombian news in 2014 related to the word suicide was studied to that end. The news was analyzed subsequently through a survey with eight questions applied by two members of the group who had been trained to conduct the study. The idea was to delve deeper and to see the effect of the (...) media and its stigmatization. Nowadays, adolescents are more exposed to situations in which their mood can be affected by improper use of the media, bearing in mind that the worst outcome would be that it leads to suicidal behavior. The contents of two Egerton manuscripts are analyzed in this paper. One, dating from 1598, is part of the correspondence between Mariana and García de Loaysa. In it, Mariana recommends someone for his friend’s government, refers to some issues of ecclesiastical policy, to his future publications and also expresses his gratitude for a personal favour. The second manuscript, dating from 1599, contains an epitaph written by Mariana after the death of García de Loaysa, which includes (...) biographical details and feelings of a family and personal nature. It amounts to a portrait which is strikingly different from other far more negative ones that history has bequeathed us. (shrink)

This study analyses the contents of two Egerton manuscripts. These manuscripts are part of the correspondence of 1598 between Mariana and García de Loaysa. This study interprets the texts of these documents as recording some of the Jesuit’s recommendations concerning the episcopal governance of his friend. Together, the texts offer several points of resemblance with Mariana’s ideas about civil government. They also reveal various intellectual concerns and the depth of his personal relations.

Background The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the approach to the health-disease system, raising the question about the principles of bioethics present in physician–patient relations. The principles while widely accepted may not be sufficient for a comprehensive ethical analysis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to explore the perception of these principles and the physician–patient relationship during a hospital stay through a qualitative approach. Method Sixteen semi-structured interviews took place to know the patients’ perception during their 2020 hospitalization for COVID-19. (...) The data was analyzed through the constant comparison method, creating categories and comparing them. In the end, seven categories were established and were grouped in three: bioethical principles (dignity, charity, vulnerability, autonomy), doctor-patient relationship (participant commitment, informed consent, health staff-patient relationship) and the experience of the disease (illness, the role of the family). Results The research found that most patients described a positive experience, with the feeling of having been well cared for with no sense of discrimination or injustice done. The majority also reported that their autonomy was respected in the treatment decisions. The evaluation of these attitudes is an area of opportunity, especially when the patients' vulnerability is at risk. Conclusions The ethics of virtue offers a better reflection of how human beings manifest themselves by emphasizing the development of virtuous character and behaviors that allow them to realize their values in life. Esta obra se concentra en cuatro temas cruciales de la formación de docentes, tanto antes como durante el servicio y en la enseñanza en diferentes áreas y niveles educativos. En primer lugar, se aborda el asunto de las creencias que los docentes tienen sobre el proceso educativo, las cuales parecen influir en la práctica profesional que estos desarrollan y, por lo tanto, deberían recibir la atención explícita de los procesos de formación de docentes que deseen promover prácticas específicas. El segundo (...) tema de la obra es la relación entre la formación de docentes y la política pública que la rige. En particular, se analizan las reformas curriculares implementadas por varias licenciaturas en universidades privadas colombianas, en respuesta a reformas a la normatividad sobre las condiciones de calidad que a las que deben ajustarse todas las licenciaturas del país. El tercer tema analizado es en qué medida los docentes en educación superior van más allá del dominio de su saber disciplinar atribuyendo importancia a la pedagogía, la didáctica y la práctica reflexiva en su propia práctica docente. Finalmente, se discuten aspectos de la formación de docentes relacionados con los procesos vividos y los retos encontrados por los docentes al entrar en la profesión, su socialización en la comunidad docente, sus identidades como maestros y su motivación para ser docentes. Vale la pena señalar que las contribuciones a este libro comparten el uso de metodologías cualitativas y presentan los resultados de historias de vida, entrevistas, observaciones, y análisis documentales, entre otros. Gender and social inclusion efforts in agricultural development are focused on making uptake of agricultural technologies more equitable. Yet research looking at how gender relations influence technology uptake often assumes that men and women within a household make farm management decisions as individuals. Relatively little is understood about the dynamics of agricultural decision-making within dual-adult households where individuals’ management choices are likely influenced by others in the household. This study used vignettes to examine decision-making related to maize plot management in (...) 698 dual-adult households in rural Kenya. The results indicated a high degree of joint management of maize plots (55%), although some management decisions—notably those related to purchased inputs—were slightly more likely to be controlled by men, while other decisions—including those related to hiring of labor and maize end uses—were more likely to be made by women. The prevalence of joint decision-making underscores the importance of ensuring that both men’s and women’s priorities and needs are reflected in design and marketing of interventions to support maize production, including those related to seed systems, farmer capacity building, and input delivery. A presente proposta busca sistematizar a importância da valorização do docente através do período extraclasse, prevista pela Lei do Piso Salarial Profissional Nacional docente (PSPN), observando a proposta de formação continuada, e, também, formação permanente, desenvolvida no Centro de Formação Carolina Garcia (CFCG), localizado no município de Macaé/RJ. A discussão aprofundada por meio da monografia de pedagogia da extinta Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Macaé – FAFIMA, tem como base os relatos apresentados nos questionários semiestruturados respondido pelas coordenadoras (...) do local, no ano de 2019. Nesse sentido, buscamos perceber o processo de elaboração da proposta do CFCG, que marca todo um movimento de formação pioneira em diálogo com o PSPN. Concluímos ao longo da pesquisa, que existem várias experiências que priorizam o fazer docente em diálogo com o período extraclasse, mas historicamente o CFCG propõe a ampliação do conhecimento de dentro da profissão e do seu entorno. I argue racial injustice undermines the reliability of news source reports in the information domain of racial injustice. I argue that this in turn undermines subjects’ doxastic justification in inferences they base on these news sources in the racial injustice information domain. I explain that racial injustice does this undermining through the effect of racial prejudice on news organizations’ members and the effect of society's racially unjust structure on non-dominant racial group-controlled news sources.

The concept of the self and its relation to moral action is complex and subject to varying interpretations, not only between different academic disciplines but also across time and space. This paper presents empirical evidence from a cross-cultural study on the Buddhist and Confucian notions of self in SMEs in Vietnam and Taiwan. The study employs Hwang’s Mandala Model of the Self, and its extension into Shiah’s non-self-model, to interpret how these two Eastern philosophical representations of the self, the Confucian (...) relational self and Buddhist non-self, can lead to moral action. By demonstrating the strengths of the model, emphasizing how social and cultural influences constrain the individual self and promote the social person leading to moral action, the paper extends understanding of the self with empirical evidence of the mechanisms involved in organizational contexts. Esta última, afirma Morente, refleja mejor que ninguna otra la naturaleza de la filosofía. The Greek word mētis (μῆτις) traditionally refers to a particular form of wily intelligence associated with the arts of deception (dolos) and the knowledge of tricks (kerdē), subterfuges, and traps. Mētis evokes innovative and ground-breaking solutions, based on the capability to understand, anticipate, and possibly violate the others’ expectations. Most importantly, mētis presupposes practical wisdom, or prudence (phrόnesis), a dispositional quality that underpins all the virtues that deserve to be cultivated by sportspersons and that is pivotal to perfect sportspersons’ moral (...) character. Not only is prudence required to apply mētis profitably for winning a game, but it is also indispensable to perform consistently with the game’s norms—cognizant of sport values. This analysis of mētis is key to illuminate the embodied dimension of tactical and moral reasoning in contemporary sport practice. In this paper, we first argue that the strategic effectiveness of mētis proves that not only sensorimotor control but also higher forms of intelligence, like strategic reasoning, are embodied and inform skilful performance; second, we argue that relying on mētis is necessary not only to interpret the rules of the game in one’s own favor but also to respect the shared values that these rules uphold in the sport practice. The agency objection to applying distributive justice globally is that principles of distributive justice need to apply to the behaviour of a special kind of institutional agent of distributive justice because of the special powers of that agent. No such agent exists capable of configuring cooperative arrangements between all persons globally, and so distributive justice does not apply globally. One response to institutional views of this kind is that they do not rule out Natural Duties of Justice that fall on (...) all of us to bring about institutional agencies capable of global distributive justice. In this article I argue that this move presupposes a particular, teleological, conception of justice whilst institutional accounts most plausibly rest on a non-teleological one. I provide an argument for favouring the non-teleological conception. I also show why alternative ways of arguing for global Natural Duties of Justice do not get around this controversy. The debate is at the level of presuppositions about justice, and relying on a partisan conception is question begging. (shrink)

En abril de 2021, la Comisión Bicameral de Fiscalización de los Organismos de Inteligencia del Congreso Nacional en Argentina -creada hace veinte años con la finalidad de fiscalizar a los organismos pertenecientes al Sistema de Inteligencia Nacional- presentó un informe que suscitó un escándalo mediático en materia de actividades ilegales de espionaje.

There is an increasing demand by society that university students demonstrate competitive skills to enable them to achieve greater success when entering the workplace. Creativity and life satisfaction correlate positively with academic performance, productivity, and excellence in the working environment. The presence of creativity and emotional intelligence in the curriculum and teaching methods in Spanish universities, however, is surprisingly lacking. Studies that examine gender differences in these variables provide conflicting results. The purpose of our research is to analyse the changes (...) produced in both creativity and life satisfaction in university students by a positive emotional and creative intervention and explore individual differences by gender. The methodology used was a quasi-experimental pre- test/post- test design with experimental/control groups. Three hundred university students from the Community of Madrid completed three exercises that evaluated creativity and life satisfaction. The results show significantly higher results in creativity and life satisfaction in women, who continued to achieve high results after the intervention. Finally, we discuss the need for emotional and creative education in universities and focus on the employability and the guarantee of equal opportunities through the development of these competencies.
